Auditions in Cherry Hill!

About Auditions

The Philadelphia Girls Choir is looking for children who have musical and vocal potential, not necessarily a polished performance. Auditions are for singers in grades 1 and 2, but once accepted into the choir, they can be invited to remain in the program and eventually join the top tier choir through 12th grade. Auditions will take place at Rosa International Middle School (485 Browning Lane, Cherry Hill) on Thursday, May 23rd from 3:45pm – 4:30pm.

The audition is very low-key. You can arrive any time between 3:45pm and 4:30pm, and the students will be dismissed individually after their audition. We will continue auditions past 4:30pm if needed. No musical training or preparation is necessary. Each singer may be asked to sing a familiar song and some intuitive singing exercises. Within two weeks after the audition, we will contact each parent by e-mail to let you know if your child can proceed to a callback audition at our facility in Philadelphia.

For more information about summer callback auditions, click here: https://www.phillygirlschoir.org/auditioning/

There is a fee for all those who enter the program, and financial aid is available to everyone who qualifies.

Our rehearsal spaces, voice studios, and offices are located on the northern Avenue of the Arts corridor (Broad & Spring Garden). The location is highly visible and easily accessible by car and public transportation.

Print and fill out the audition form below and bring it with you to the audition.

Organizational Background

Music opens a window to the beauty of the world.  At Philadelphia Girls Choir, we see music as the central piece in a cultural jigsaw puzzle. Through music, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our community and our world.

Philadelphia Girls Choir was founded as an after-school music education program for girls 7 and older in 2012. The program grew quickly to 200 girls and they are split into three choirs depending on age, musical proficiency and maturity. Admission is by audition only. All programs include performance opportunities: e.g. Etude, the youngest choir, has sung at the State Capitol in Harrisburg and at One World Trade Center in Manhattan; Cantata at the National Constitution Museum and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, as well as on tour in Belgium and the Netherlands. Concerto, the most proficient singers, have performed internationally at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Musikverein in Vienna and locally for the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Nutcracker. This year, select girls will perform in Opera Philadelphia’s production of La Bohème.

Philadelphia Girls Choir takes a holistic approach to choral music. PGC relates singing, musicianship, and choral performance to the broader human experience through art, drama, history, and cultural diversity. Each year, the Choir’s repertoire has a core idea that relates to experiences the girls will have throughout the year, including visiting museums, attending performances, and performing in locations that are tied to the core repertoire.
