About Auditions

The Philadelphia Girls Choir is looking for singers who have musical and vocal potential, not necessarily a polished performance. Auditions are for students in grades 1 through 5 for our young and intermediate ensembles. Once accepted into the program, singers can potentially remain in the Philadelphia Girls Choir through 12th grade. Auditions will take place in the music room at Fleetwood Elementary School (231 Fleetwood Avenue) on Friday, April 29th from 3:30pm – 5:00pm.

This initial audition process is very low-key. No musical training or preparation is necessary. Each girl may be asked to sing a simple song that she knows and some intuitive singing exercises. Within two weeks after the audition, we will contact each parent by e-mail to let you know if your daughter can proceed to a callback audition at our facility in Philadelphia. For FAQ’s and information about the final callback audition, click here.

There is a fee for students who enter the program, and financial aid is available to everyone who qualifies.

Our rehearsal spaces, voice studios, and offices are located on the northern Avenue of the Arts corridor (Broad & Spring Garden). The location is highly visible and easily accessible by car and public transportation.

About the choir program

Philadelphia Girls Choir is a fun and educational choral experience for girls and young women in the

Philadelphia Girls Choir was founded as an after-school music education program for girls 7 and older in 2012. The program grew quickly to 200 girls and they are split into three choirs depending on age, musical proficiency and maturity. Admission is by audition only. All programs include performance opportunities: e.g. Etude, the youngest choir, has sung at the State Capitol in Harrisburg and at One World Trade Center in Manhattan; Cantata at the National Constitution Museum and the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, as well as on tour in Belgium and the Netherlands. Concerto, the most proficient singers, have performed internationally at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Musikverein in Vienna and locally for Philadelphia Ballet’s Nutcracker.

Philadelphia Girls Choir takes a holistic approach to choral music. PGC relates singing, musicianship, and choral performance to the broader human experience through art, drama, history, and cultural diversity. Each year, the Choir’s repertoire has a core idea that relates to experiences the girls will have throughout the year, including visiting museums, attending performances, and performing in locations that are tied to the core repertoire.
