Auditions at your school!

About Auditions

The Philadelphia Girls Choir is looking for girls who have musical and vocal potential, not necessarily a polished performance. We are currently auditioning girls in the younger grades, but once accepted into the choir, girls can be invited to remain in the program and eventually join the top tier choir through 12th grade. Auditions will take place at your school during the day. See your form for the exact date and grade level.

The audition is very low-key. No musical training or preparation is necessary. Each girl may be asked to sing a simple song that she knows and some intuitive singing exercises. Within two weeks after the audition, we will contact each parent by e-mail to let you know if your daughter can proceed to a callback audition at our facility in Philadelphia.

For more information about summer callback auditions, click here: https://www.phillygirlschoir.org/auditioning/

There is a fee for girls who enter the program, and financial aid is available to everyone who qualifies.

Our rehearsal spaces, voice studios, and offices are located on the northern Avenue of the Arts corridor (Broad & Spring Garden). The location is highly visible and easily accessible by car and public transportation.

To sign up for an audition, fill out the permission form you were given and turn it in to your music teacher.

Organizational Background

Music opens a window to the beauty of the world.  At Philadelphia Girls Choir, we see music as the central piece in a cultural jigsaw puzzle. Through music, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, our community and our world.

Philadelphia Girls Choir was founded as a music program for girls ages seven and older in 2012, and has quickly grown to serve nearly 200 young musicians. After auditioning, accepted girls are either placed in a one-year training program or directly into one of three choirs, separated by age, musical proficiency, and maturity. The performing choir has performed at the National Constitution Museum, at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, for the Pennsylvania Ballet’s Nutcracker, and in Opera Philadelphia’s productions of Carmen and La Bohème.

Philadelphia Girls Choir takes a holistic approach to choral music, connecting vocal technique, musicianship, and choral performance to the broader human experience through art, drama, history, and cultural diversity. Each year, the Choir’s repertoire centers on a core idea that guides the girls from the first rehearsal to the final performance. The annual theme is also woven into activities outside of rehearsal: choristers visit museums, attend performances, and sing in locations tied to their core repertoire.
